Ingress is an augmented reality massively multi-player online role playing GPS-dependent game created by Google’s Niantic Labs division. The back story revolves around XM and the Shapers. Earth has been seeded with “Exotic Matter,” or XM. This substance has been associated with the Shapers, a mysterious phenomenon or alien race which is neither described nor seen. The Enlightened fight supporting the Shapers and their affects of XM on mankind, whereas the Resistance believes in preserving what freedom humanity has left. The Resistance is represented by blue and the Enlightened are represented by green. If you have not yet chosen a side, select Resistance now.
A player using the mobile app is presented with a map representing the surrounding area. Visible on the map are portals, Exotic Matter (XM), links, control fields, and items that have been dropped from a player’s inventory. Players must be physically near objects on the map to interact with them. Players are rewarded with AP (Access Points) for actions within the game. Accumulating AP grants you higher access levels which comes with stronger items and capabilities. There are 16 levels, and the amount of AP required for each level is double the previous level requirement. Your objective is to capture Portals, create Links and build Control Fields while preventing the Enlightened from doing the same.
